IT Project Manager – Cybersecurity MSSP Transition
We are seeking a results-driven IT Project Manager with experience transitioning cybersecurity services to a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). This role is responsible for overseeing the successful migration of operational security capabilities to the contracted MSSP, minimizing risk, ensuring compliance, and improving service performance. The ideal candidate has strong cybersecurity program knowledge, cybersecurity vendor management experience, and hands-on involvement in service transition governance.

Role Description
The Project Manager will manage the full project lifecycle including initiation, planning, execution, governance, control, and close-out. This role requires experience in security services, vendor management, and strong project management leadership.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead and facilitate end-to-end planning, transition and delivery of MSSP programs, including planning and design sessions, testing, training, product demos, change controls, communications, and adoption.
- Oversee delivery and planning of SOC services, threat intelligence, incident response, and vulnerability management.
- Drive project execution across internal and external teams including vendor service groups, cybersecurity SMEs, and infrastructure teams.
Vendor Management & Transition Governance
- Coordinate all transition activities to ensure a smooth onboarding of the MSSP.
- Consolidate and track all transition documentation including technical and contractual materials.
- Oversee onboarding of new cybersecurity services, ensuring contractual and technical requirements are met.
- Manage governance processes including issue escalation and risk resolution during onboarding.
- Work closely with internal IT, the vendor PM, and vendor teams to align transition activities and priorities.
- Set priorities and provide leadership to the Business Analyst supporting the transition.
- Note: this role focuses exclusively on onboarding and does not include ongoing MSSP operational management.
- Monitor and audit contractual deliverables to ensure all obligations are met.
- Review and validate service levels to confirm compliance post-onboarding.
Security Operations Readiness
- Align transition activities with cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, CIS, etc.).
- Validate operational handover criteria such as runbooks, escalation procedures, workflows, and dashboards.
- Coordinate knowledge-transfer activities to ensure SOC analysts are fully trained.
Risk, Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Work with Cybersecurity to monitor security, operational, and continuity risks throughout the transition.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Support service acceptance testing, operational readiness reviews, and post-transition maturity assessments.
Qualifications
- Experience with Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies.
- 5+ years IT Project Management experience.
- Managed at least two cybersecurity service-related projects; experience with cybersecurity service transitions strongly preferred.
- Proven success managing cybersecurity vendor transitions or outsourced service onboarding.
- Minimum 5 years progressive IT experience with broad technical knowledge.
- Strong understanding of MSSPs, SOC services, SIEM, SOAR and security event monitoring.
- Skilled in executive reporting and communication up to C-Suite.
- Experience with cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, CIS, etc.).
- Public sector experience is an asset.
- PMP certification preferred.
- ITIL v3 or v4 certification is an asset.
