Apply for Senior GIS Software Developer

On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is seeking a qualified GIS software developer to take primary responsibility for maintaining and enhancing an existing GIS-based transportation data application and its associated database. This system supports the updating and management of a comprehensive GIS roads database. It includes a custom desktop GIS editing tool built in Java using open‑source mapping libraries, data management utilities for importing, exporting, and administering the core database, and web-based components written in TypeScript that provide API access for external systems and partners. Both the desktop and web components rely on a Postgres database hosted in an OpenShift environment.

Responsibilities:

• Setup of a development environment on the proponent’s own infrastructure

• Development, testing and delivery of GBA ITN desktop application updates to the ministry terminal server environment

• Administration, development and deployment of updates to the cloud-based database and web services

• Database services including data modelling and replication

• Management of the GBAITN Github repository including version and release

• Maintenance, resolution and tracking of required and recommended security updates as documented in the Security, Threat and Risk Assessment

• Technical documentation including architecture, data model and API

• Project management

• Business analysis

Required Experience:

• 5+ years hands-on experience developing Java-based geospatial applications

• 3+ years (within the last 7 years) working with road or transportation network datasets, including navigational restrictions (one-way, turn restrictions, access rules)

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL / PostGIS, including schema design for network data

• Experience maintaining and enhancing existing production systems (not greenfield only)

• Comfort working independently as a single accountable technical owner

• Ability to pass government security and compliance requirements
