On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking a PowerBI Report Developer to deliver business-ready insights through well-designed reports and dashboards tailored for specific stakeholder needs. The ideal candidate will have advanced Power BI report development skills and knowledge or experience in business analysis (requirements elicitation, functional specifications) and UX design concepts (report layout, navigation).
Responsibilities:
• Accountable to the Divisional Core Services Measures and Metrics project delivery manager and reports to the project manager for day-to-day delivery.
• Responsibilities & deliverables include but not limited to:
o Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Power BI reports and dashboards, working within established data sources and governed Power BI environments.
o Build and maintain DAX measures and calculated fields to support business logic and key metrics.
o Perform light data shaping and transformation using Power Query (M) within the scope of reporting needs.
o Validate data accuracy and results with project team & business users and iterate based on feedback.
o Clearly defined and documented measures, calculations, and report logic. Report designs follow best practices for layout, navigation, and user experience.
o Partner closely with project team members and stakeholders to gather, understand, document, and assess reporting needs; recommend and deliver intuitive report & dashboards to support operational and strategic decision-making.
o Translate business questions into effective visualizations, ensuring clarity, usability, and accessibility for target audiences.
o Deliver business-ready Power BI reports and dashboards aligned to agreed-upon requirements.
Mandatory Requirements:
Power BI Report Developer (advance level)
• 6-9 years (real time) experience as an analyst/developer/Power BI report developer, inclusive of 1 year direct hands-on experience in the agile practice.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Advanced skills in Power BI development: design, develop, enhance, and maintain interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI Desktop + Power BI Service.
• Advanced skills in DAX: building measures, KPIs, and time-based calculations.
• Strong Power Query (M) skills: data shaping and cleansing within reports.
• Proficient in SQL: for data validation and troubleshooting, profile sources, and support efficient dataset/report development.
• Understanding of data modeling concepts relevant to reporting, e.g., relationships, basic star schema principles.
Business and Communication skills
• Proven ability to work directly with business stakeholders to gather, document, and assess requirements and translate them into effective reports.
• Ability to translate stakeholder goals into clear acceptance criteria and determine the definitions of “done”, iterate through review cycles with business partners.
• Strong communications skills to explain insights, assumptions, design decisions, and limitations to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy and consistency.
Assets
• Relevant Microsoft Certifications (e.g., Power BI Data Analyst), or Equivalent / Demonstrated experience.
• Experience following enterprise Power BI standards, governance, and publishing processes.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with data engineers, data architects, and align report requirements with available data and governance practices, make recommendations where required.
