IT/AV Support Technician

Industry: All

Term: Contract

Province: AB

Category: Information Technology

Experience: 3 - 5 Years

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a reliable and customer-focused IT/AV Support Technician to provide hands-on technical support for a two-day conference held in Calgary. You will be the primary point of contact for guest speakers and presenters, ensuring smooth operation of classroom technology, projectors, computers, and login systems throughout the event.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong troubleshooting skills, patience with non-technical users, and availability on a weekend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site basic IT and AV support within the assigned campus building for all conference sessions.
  • Assist guest speakers and presenters with technical issues, including:
    • Logging into provided computers or their own devices.
    • Setting up and operating projectors, screens, and presentation equipment.
    • Connecting laptops, resolving display issues, and troubleshooting audio/visual problems.
  • Monitor rooms between sessions to prevent and resolve common issues (e.g., cords being unplugged, settings changed, or equipment left in an unusable state by previous users).
  • Reset classroom technology (computers, projectors, cables, and settings) as needed between presentations to ensure the next speaker can start smoothly.
  • Act as a friendly, calm point of contact for speakers who need quick assistance.
  • Work closely with the conference organizers and the client’s IT Services team.
  • Report any recurring technical issues or equipment problems to the event coordinator.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in IT helpdesk, AV technical support, event tech, or classroom/technology support (preferred but not mandatory if you have strong troubleshooting skills).
  • Solid working knowledge of:
    • Windows/Mac login processes.
    • Projectors, HDMI/VGA connections, and display troubleshooting.
    • Basic cable management and classroom AV setups.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think quickly under time pressure.
  • Strong customer service attitude — patient, professional, and reassuring with speakers who may be stressed or non-technical.
  • Ability to work independently while staying within the one-building area.
  • Availability for the full weekend of May 26–27, 2026 (both days required).
  • Reliable transportation to the Calgary campus location.
