Category: Information Technology
Experience: 5 - 10 Years
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Wireless Solutions Architect/Consultant with specialized wireless architecture expertise to develop a standardized provincial Wi-Fi architecture. This work will support the modernization and standardization of wireless access across a large, geographically distributed healthcare environment and enable consistent, repeatable deployment patterns for new facilities and future rollout phases. The consultant will act as an extension of internal network architecture capacity, working with eHealth Network Services to assess the current wireless environment and define a target-state provincial Wi-Fi architecture.
Responsibilities:
• Perform an analysis of the current provincial Wi Fi environment including Service Set Identifier (SSID) inventory, controller/Access Point (AP) fleet inventory, and wireless traffic flow mapping.
• Develop authentication flow diagrams, traffic flow diagrams (layer 2& 3), target SSID matrix.
• Radio Frequency (RF) design baseline parameters for the proposed architecture.
• Develop the future state provincial Wi-Fi architecture and standards, including standard Service Set Identifiers (SSIDs), authentication mechanisms, and design considerations for security, QoS, and RF parameters.
• Define an identity-based access approach using Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) policy constructs, and document segmentation patterns including dynamic Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) assignment where appropriate.
• Facilitate stakeholder workshops and design validation sessions; maintain a decision log and issues log for traceability.
• Knowledge transfer and training.
• Develop detailed solution design documentation (SDD), including:
o End-to-end wireless architecture designs.
o Logical and physical architecture diagrams.
o Design assumptions, constraints, and technology decisions.
• Ensure all solution designs are aligned to eHealth Saskatchewan architecture standards, domain roadmaps, and governance processes, including adherence to established eHealth reference architectures.
• Present solution designs and architecture artifacts to the eHealth Architecture Review Board (ARB), addressing feedback and ensuring approvals are obtained.
• Incorporate ARB feedback and maintain traceability of decisions through Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and ARB action logs.
Qualifications:
• Possess a bachelor’s degree in a related Information Technology/Engineering field.
• Have a minimum of five (5) years proven experience working as a Wireless Solutions Architect/Consultant, providing enterprise wireless architecture, design, and advisory services for complex, multi-site environments. This should include experience with:
o Wireless controller and access point refresh/migrations.
o WLAN standardization and multi-site rollout execution.
o Wi-Fi capacity upgrades and performance optimization.
o Security uplift initiatives (e.g., 802.1X, WPA2/WPA3Enterprise, certificate-based authentication).
o Guest wireless design and segmentation.
• Possess an active Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) – Wireless certification and maintain certification in good standing for the duration of the engagement.
Rated Resource Qualifications/Requirements:
The proposed Resource should have the following qualifications and have experience fulfilling the following job requirements:
Expert knowledge of:
• Creating architectures/blueprints for enterprise wireless initiatives.
• Aligning technology initiatives with long-term business goals and transformation strategies, with clear traceability.
• Wireless networking and enterprise design principles.
• End-to-end traffic flow and dependency mapping (Layer 2/Layer 3), including integration points with core network services (DNS, DHCP, PKI/certificates, NAC/ISE, firewall zoning, and logging/monitoring).
• Quality of Service (QoS) and design considerations for voice and latency-sensitive workflows over Wi-Fi in a healthcare environment.
Extensive experience with:
• Implementing Identity-based access control concepts and patterns using Cisco ISE, including policy sets, profiling, posture, and segmentation approaches such as dynamic VLAN assignment.
• Leading or contributing to large-scale wireless infrastructure design/standardization initiatives and/or solution deployments across complex, multi-site environments.
• Current-state assessment activities such as SSID (Service Set Identifier) inventory, controller/AP (Access Points) inventory, configuration approach comparison, and high-level wireless traffic flow mapping.
• Developing deliverables such as authentication flow diagrams, SSID matrices, Cisco ISE policy models, and high-level Layer 2/Layer 3 traffic flow diagrams.
• Defining and documenting standardized SSID models and onboarding patterns for managed devices, voice devices, partner/unmanaged devices, and guest access.
• Stakeholder engagement and facilitation, including workshops and design validation sessions with senior leaders, business owners, and technical teams.
• Knowledge transfer/training and producing clear, adoptable standards documentation that can
be reused.
Plus:
• Experience working with healthcare projects would be considered an asset.
