On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a Full Stack Developer for a 6 month contract.

Our client is a global financial technology company focused on making it easier for customers to access, move, and manage money around the world.

Their business platform enables small businesses to pay contractors, freelancers, suppliers, and employees internationally. The product is continuing to expand, with a focus on business onboarding, payments, receiving funds, and reporting.

About the Role

We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Development Engineer II to join the Business Engineering team in Burnaby.

This is a front-end-leaning full-stack role. The ideal candidate will be particularly strong with React and TypeScript, while also being comfortable contributing to backend services and APIs.

You will build experiences across business onboarding and verification, payment/send flows, receiving payments, and reporting. Engineers own features end-to-end and regularly ship production code.

The team is also AI-native, using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor and similar AI coding assistants as part of the development process. Engineers are expected to use these tools effectively while reviewing, testing and validating their output.

Top 3 Skills

• React / TypeScript – Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production-quality front-end applications.
• Full-Stack Development – Experience working across front-end and backend services, ideally with Go and GraphQL.
• Production Engineering & AI Development Tools – Experience with testing, CI/CD, cloud environments and production support, along with hands-on use of tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or GitHub Copilot.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, test and operate features across the stack, including:
  • React / React Native on the front end
  • TypeScript / GraphQL in the middle layer
  • Go services on the backend
• Partner with Product Managers, Designers and Engineers to turn product ideas into scoped, testable specifications.
• Evaluate technical trade-offs and understand how changes impact existing systems.
• Break work into tasks, estimate effort and communicate progress and risks.
• Write high-quality, modular and maintainable code.
• Develop thorough automated tests.
• Improve deployment, documentation, logging and monitoring.
• Use AI coding agents to accelerate development, testing and documentation while validating their output.
• Participate in code and design reviews.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation.
• Support onboarding and mentorship of new team members.

What You'll Bring

• 5–6 years of professional software engineering experience preferred.
• Strong hands-on experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience building and operating production software.
• Strong front-end development skills with the ability to contribute across the full stack.
• Proficiency in at least one backend/programming language such as Go, TypeScript, Java or Kotlin.
• Experience working with REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
• Working knowledge of asynchronous programming and relational or document databases.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Hands-on experience using modern AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar.
• Ability to validate and critically assess AI-generated code rather than relying on it blindly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable documenting technical decisions and raising issues when needed.

Nice to Have

• Experience in payments, fintech or another regulated environment.
• Experience with React Native.
• Experience with GraphQL Federation.
• Experience writing technical specifications or acceptance criteria for development teams.
• Experience working in an AI-native software development environment
